Call for HELTASA Student Forum Members

The Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA), through its Student Learning Project Team, invites applications for student representation on the national HELTASA Student Forum. The Forum will aim to represent students from South African higher education institutions, who are actively involved in peer leaderships activities.

The Forum aims to create a platform that would:

  • Enable critical dialogue about the South African higher education student experience.
  • Stimulate opportunities for student agency to be activated, enhanced, and practiced.
  • Engage with the HELTASA values and principles to foreground student presence, voice, and to advance knowledge and practice.
  • Provide the opportunity for students, academic development practitioners, and academic staff to collaborate to ensure that the sector is systemically addressing student needs.
  • Negotiate guidelines to formalise student presence and voice.

While the Student Learning Project Team will facilitate and coordinate the process, the Forum is designed to be student led and will require dynamic members who take responsibility for developing and sustaining the Forum as a community of practice within HELTASA. Forum members will also be responsible for succession planning and selected members will hold their roles for a period of one year.
