Demystifying the notion of student voices in higher education contexts
The HELTASA Student Learning Project Team invites you to a 90-minute Coffee Conversation that will explore the notion of student voices in higher education. Used often by higher education stakeholders in formal and informal contexts, student voices has emerged as an important element in both learning and teaching conversations and broader student success conversations. Yet the literature shows that voices as a construct is highly complex (McLeod, 2011) and that student voices is an intricate notion with at least four overlapping dimensions in education discourse (McLeod, 2011). During this Coffee Conversation we will begin to demystify some of these complexities by engaging with insights from university staff and students as they reflect on student voices. We will continue the conversation during the 2024 HELTASA (Un)Conference in November. The session should be of interest to stakeholders in the South(ern) African higher education sector(s).
