Reflexivity as a Critical Endeavour in Higher Education

Within the context of teaching portfolios and in support of being reflective practitioners, reflexivity is key to critically appraise, evaluate and explore existing teaching practices in order to acknowledge and consolidate good teaching principles. Reflexivity informs improvement and innovations for future practice.

This webinar invites higher education academics and academic specialists to explore reflexivity as a deliberate and critical practice in professional learning and development, teaching enhancement, and identity formation.  Moving beyond surface-level reflection, presentations and discussions will explore meaningful reflexivity and why it matters.

The focus areas of this webinar will include:

  • The distinction between reflection and reflexivity;
  • How, what, and why to reflect in the context of higher education learning and teaching;
  • The role of reflexivity in enhancing teaching practices and shaping academic identity;
  • An opportunity to practise reflexivity through guided discussion and questioning, and
  • Strategies for applying reflexivity to real learning and teaching challenges.

This webinar is aimed at educators and academic specialists seeking to deepen their critical engagement with their teaching practice and develop a more intentional, informed and adaptive professional identity.

As a practical exercise, participants will identify a learning and teaching focus area they wish to improve, innovate or consolidate using the ideas shared in the webinar.
