Sub Theme 4: Illuminating the Institution: Preserve, Expand or Reimagine?

Lightning illuminates what the darkness conceals. This subtheme invites an honest, institutional-scale reckoning. It calls us to hold a mirror to the structures, cultures, and assumptions of the university itself i.e. governance, access, flexibility, lifelong learning pathways, and the mission of the institution in a disrupted landscape. This is the moment to ask the hard questions: what do we conserve, what do we expand, and what do we have the courage to let go of entirely?

Provocations:

• What institutional practices or structures are we holding onto out of habit rather than value?
• What would it take to truly operationalise “lifelong learning” as a core institutional mission?
• How do we govern an “emerging university” in a way that is both agile and accountable?
