As the date for the 2018 HELTASA conference, Dancing on the Learning and Teaching Waves of Change in Africa, is drawing closer the conference committee is eager to add you to our dance card from 20 November, for the pre-conference workshops, to 23 November, when we conclude the conference with a crescendo.
During the conference we hope to stimulate and disrupt traditional thinking and paradigms to encourage a measure of freedom, collaboration, liveliness and innovation within the rhythms present in the academic project. We request that delegates plan their outbound flights so they remain for the entire duration of the conference, which concludes on Friday with lunch. This will enable us to compose new music scores, such as debates and discussion on the teaching excellence awards, critical dialogues and other key highlights that make this conference different.
In addition to the full academic experience the 2018 HELTASA conference offers three social networking opportunities where delegates may engage with peers, keynote speakers and other invited guests. Delegates are invited to
- the traditional welcome cocktail on Tuesday evening
- a culture evening celebrating the unique culture of Higher Education in South Africa to conclude the day on Wednesday
- the formal gala dinner on Thursday evening
We look forward to engaging with you during these events while we move to a different rhythm, sharing and learning new steps, as we collaborate and dance together on the waves of change in the higher education context.
The notification of acceptance of abstracts, in response to the second call, has been delayed due to the significant number of abstracts we have received in the various rhythms. The conference committee is finalising the review process and have started to notify presenters. However, in order to address the delay we are providing delegates, whose abstracts have been accepted, with an extension, enabling presenters to register under the regular conference fee until 10 October.
The conference will be hosted on the Nelson Mandela University South Campus in Summerstrand. Booking accommodation in Summerstrand, Humewood and Humerail is recommended, as there are various hotels and bed and breakfasts available in these suburbs.
Additional Information regarding the HELTASA 2018 conference is available online. Any updated information to the website will be tweeted using the hashtag #HELTASA2018. Please keep an eye on the HELTASA social media pages, such as Facebook, the HELTASA Conference 2018 events page and the official HELTASA Twitter handle @Heltasa01.
We look forward to welcoming you to Nelson Mandela University and dancing with you on the teaching and learning waves of change in Africa.
