Abram Mashatole
Abram Mashatole is Lecturer at the University of Limpopo, with research interests in Multilingual Studies, African Languages and the Intersectionality between race, language, culture and education. Through his research, he seeks to mainstream multilingualism in broader discussions about education and institutional planning. He has collaborated with other researchers to develop multilingual resources for students in South African higher education and has presented papers on overcoming barriers to access in higher education in both local and international conferences. He is part of team on Sustainable Membership and Recruitment, HELTASA and works to assist and support other project teams and their members with their ongoing operations.
Benita Bobo
Benita Bobo is a lecturer at the Durban University of Technology, in the Centre for General Education. Here, she teaches General Education modules using a transformative learning pedagogy. Her previous experience in higher education includes briefly working as an academic developer at Stellenbosch University, and also working for a number of years as a Lecturer and Coordinator at Rhodes University. Benita holds a PhD in Psychology, and her research interests broadly include community engagement in higher education, community psychology, transformative learning, and social justice.
Sisonke Mawonga
Sisonke first joined the Extended Studies Unit as a student in 2009. In 2005 she returned as a lecturer and language practitioner at the Unit, she teaches Management 1F and Economics 1F (augmented courses for Management 101 & 102 and Economics 101). The courses focus on academic resources, writing and language skills for university. She is currently doing her PhD at the School of Languages. Her research focuses on the use of languages other than English at university , to facilitate epistemic access. She is a member of the African Languages Association of Southern Africa (ALASA) and has presented many papers within the association’s conferences. Her research includes language and pedagogy; implementation of multilingualism in South African higher education and the development of languages other than English.
